The Republican Party of Texas will kick-off its state convention on Thursday morning at the George R. Brown Convention Center.
Big Political Names attending the three day GOP Gathering:
U.S Senators Kay Bailey Hutchison and John Cornyn. Governor Rick Perry, Newt Gingrich and Former Presidential Hopeful Mike Huckabee.
Last week in Austin, the Democrats focused on uniting after a bitter primary battle.
For Republicans, the question is – can grassroots and conservative activists rally around the presumptive nominee Senator John McCain. McCain isn’t attending, but former primary rival Mitt Romney will speak on his behalf Friday.
Republicans are also focused on trying to hold on to elected offices in battleground areas like Harris County, where record turnout among Democrats in the general election could swing the political tide.

Mission Day One – find the “Perry Pavilion.”
According the the Governor’s release: At this year’s convention, take a moment to rest your feet and visit with Gov. Perry. There will be FREE POPCORN and plenty of seating. If you missed Gov. Perry on his state-wide book tour, you’ll have a chance to get your copy of On My Honor signed in person.
Free Popcorn and Perry? That could be the highlight of this party’s convention!
Also, you can find several congressional candidates vying for hotly contested seats in Harris County at the event on Thursday afternoon just outside the convention. John Faulk is running as the Republican challenger for the 18th District and Eric Story is running as the Republican challenger for the 29th District.
John is was great talking to you!
Sorry I was busy preparing for a live shot for the 5 o’clock news, but if our paths cross on day two of the convention I will try to snap your picture and add it to the blog!
