Republicans attending the state convention will hear from some big names Friday:
Former U.S. House Speaker Newt Gingrich, Former Presidential hopefuls Mike Huckabee and Mitt Romney will be in Houston Friday. Huckabee is a favorite of many religious conservatives and some hope that he is selected as the V.P. nominee.
Romney is standing in for presumptive presidential nominee U.S. Senator John McCain. McCain is not attending the convention, but is expected in Houston next Tuesday to attend a private fundraiser.
Congressman Ron Paul pulls the plug:
The Ron Paul Revolution ended Thursday night. He told his supporters that while he is ending his own presidential bid, he will focus on electing fellow Republicans who have more libertarian values.
Democrats in the spotlight:
Harris County Democrats are not keeping quiet during the GOP convention. This morning Democratic candidates for county judge, sheriff, district attorney and others are holding a news conference.
The press release says they will discuss “ethical issues surrounding Republican Harris County government.” In other words, they will be doing a lot of talking about the email controversy, corruption charges and other scandals that have plagued local republican elected officials for the past few months.
