Raised by her grandmother after her mother was sentenced to life in prison for murder, 18 year old Kierra Lee overcame medical problems and financial struggles to graduate as the valedictorian of the 2009 Jack Yates Senior High School class.
She has been awarded more than $80.000 in scholarships.
Kierra plans to attend Texas A&M University and major in sociology.
