One of the joys of working in TV news is that I have an opportunity to meet fascinating people from our wonderfully diverse Houston area community.
I also appreciate that I work for people who understand the importance of building relationships and being involved in events that are important to our viewers.
On Thursday night, KPRC-TV General Manager Larry Blackerby welcomed dozens of people to the station for our 3rd annual Community Reception.
Elected officials, the leaders of non-profit and community groups, and other people who are quietly making a difference were invited to meet the station management, reporters and producers.
It gave us an opportunity to get to know each other away from the glare of bright lights, news cameras and meetings.
The reception helped put a face to every luncheon, parade, festival, walk-a-thon, blood and food drive, and other special community events that Channel 2 supports.
Some of those attending included, Houston’s First Lady Andrea White, Katy Mayor Don Elder Jr. and his wife, Fort Bend Constable Ruben Davis, Pastor D.Z. Cofield, representatives from Houston Aids Foundation, The Ensemble Theatre, Channel 2 News Director Skip Valet, Senior Producer Kim Davis and a host of others.
It was a great night, and Channel 2 looks forward to doing more great work in the community.
