Inside the Fire Damaged Gallery Furniture

On Thursday, Gallery Furniture owner Jim “Mattress Mack” McIngvale led the media on a  tour of his eighty-thousand square foot warehouse that was destroyed in a massive fire.

While stepping over the charred debris and melted metal, Mattress Mack vowed that he would rebuild, and turn evil into good.

Evil is how he refers to the massive fire that investigators say was intentionally set on May 21, 2009.

He plans to reopen the showroom by July 4, and the rest of the property will reopen in phases.

Mack hopes the warehouse will be renovated by his 59th birthday, which is February 11, 2010.

    Turn good into evil! Really?!?!

  2. Watched some of the livestream on this and was sad to hear about the fire. Upon moving to Houston, our family visited Gallery Furniture and was pleasantly surprised to see “the man himself” behind the front desk, working the phones. I had also read about Mack’s generosity throughout the community while living there. Hope that the community can now come through for him. The story about the boy who donated his bag of money was especially heartwarming. Good luck to Mr. McIngvale and Gallery Furniture.
