Congratulations to Houston City Council Member Wanda Adams. On Thursday night, Adams celebrated her birthday and raised more than $10, 000 to benefit a cancer prevention and awareness program.
Instead of hosting a traditional birthday bash, Adams shunned extravagant gifts for herself and focused on making a difference in the lives of others.
She asked party guests to donate whatever amount they could afford to Sisters Network Inc; an African-American breast cancer survivorship organization. Everyone in the crowd was happy to open their hearts and pocketbooks, helping Adams surpass her goal of raising $10,000 for the national organization. http://www.sistersnetworkinc.org/
KPRC Local 2 recently reported on the group’s first “stop the silence” breast cancer walk. /http://www.click2houston.com/video/23113758/index.html
Dozens of Adams’ friends, family members, elected officials and business leaders enjoyed listening to music, catching up on political gossip and talking about summer vacation plans. The event was held at Grooves Restaurant near downtown Houston.
Some of the faces in the crowd: State Rep. Borris Miles, City Controller Ronald Green, City Council Member Jolanda Jones, Cindy Clifford of the Clifford Group, David Bray, Metro’s Russ Frank, Nancy Furst and Dana Kervin from the Houston Realtors Association, Dallas Jones and Brandon Dudley, Mini Timmaraju of Planned Parenthood, Kelly Hodges from Sisters Network and Jenn Char from the city of Houston.
