First Ladies Share Birthdays and Commitment to Public Service

Join me in wishing a very Happy Birthday to Kathy Hubbard, the  First Lady of  Houston  and former First Lady Elyse Lanier,  who is currently a commissioner with the Port of  Houston.

Hubbard, the life partner of  Mayor Annise Parker, and Lanier, who is married to former Houston Mayor Bob Lanier, are celebrating their joint birthdays today,  Wednesday, August 5th.

I spotted them at Houston city hall where they were busy putting the final details on a project they are co-chairing.

It’s called Eco Bash on The Bayou, a celebration of  Houston’s famous waterways.

The bash is scheduled for this Saturday, August 7, 2010, beginning with a 9 a.m. Bayou cleanup. (gloves and bags will be provided)

That will be followed by a “Flash and Trash” fashion show featuring the recycled fashions designed by HCC students.

Later, you can listen to entertainment by Lady D & The Zydeco Tornadoes.  It will be a family friendly event.

According to the news release, “the First Ladies believe in the importance of  taking care of our environment and this precious waterway.”
