On Wednesday, Mayor Annise Parker and city council approved an ordinance authorizing the Economic Development Agreement between the city and Dynamo Stadium, LLC for the development, construction operations and maintenance of a multi-purpose sports and entertainment facility.
The stadium will be constructed on the east side of Highway 59 across from Minute Maid Park.
Council Member James Rodriguez has been an enthusiastic supporter of this project.
After the vote clearing they way for the Dynamo Stadium he issued a statement saying, ” I am pleased to announce that the Houston City Council today approved Agenda Items 24 and 25, clearing the way for the construction of the new East Downtown Soccer Stadium. See the items below:
24. ORDINANCE approving and authorizing Economic Development Agreement between the City of Houston, Texas, and DYNAMO STADIUM, LLC for the development, construction, operation, and maintenance of a Multi-Purpose Sports and Entertainment Facility in the City
25. ORDINANCE approving and authorizing Interlocal Agreement between the City of Houston, Texas, Harris County, Reinvestment Zone Number Fifteen, City of Houston, Texas (East Downtown Zone) and the EAST DOWNTOWN REDEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY relating to the participation of Harris County in the Reinvestment Zone
I look forward to the ground breaking for the new East Downtown Soccer Stadium, a project that was a collaborative effort involving the city, county, and Houston Dynamo.”
