Houston, TX- We’ve all heard that there’s no free lunch, but in these challenging economic times, Houston-area residents will be able to get free financial planning advice and guidance from professional financial planners at Houston Financial Planning Day.
This event will be held on Saturday, October 23rd from 9:00 a.m. to noon at Texas Southern University’s Barbara Jordan – Mickey Leeland School of Public Affairs and will feature financial planning experts, all volunteering their time and expertise to work with local residents one-on-one to address important financial issues.
“This very important event will offer six financial workshops that cater to all ages and financial situations,” said City Controller Ronald C. Green. “What makes this event especially unique is that individuals can receive free one-on-one financial advice from industry professionals through an entirely confidential process.”
Houston Financial Planning Day is organized by the City Controller’s office in partnership with the Financial Planning Association- Houston Chapter as part of a national Financial Planning Days initiative created by Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards, Financial Planning Association, Foundation for Financial Planning and the U.S. Conference of Mayors. The collaboration is the first-of-its kind involving the City of Houston.
The opening ceremonies will be held from 9:00 – 9:30 a.m. and will feature Dr. Michael Adams- Texas Southern University, Dave Gatton- U.S. Conference of Mayors, Andrew Gardener- Financial Planning Association, and a keynote address from City Controller Ronald C. Green. Ask-a-planner clinic runs from 9:30 – 11:30 a.m. with the workshops running simultaneously during that time. The closing ceremonies are 11:30 – noon and end with a keynote address from City Councilmember Stephen Costello.
