Do you hate or support red-light cameras at dangerous intersections?
Get ready to vote on the issue in November.
On Tuesday, Mayor Annise Parker and the Houston City Council voted to certify thousands of signatures that were collected by one anti-red light camera group.
Now the fate of those cameras will be decided in November.
Designed to act as a deterrent to running red lights, the cameras also generate revenue for the City of Houston.
Motorists receive a ticket in the mail within days of the violation. The fine is $75.

First, it is imperative to note that the Council’s action today related to election law and not the effectiveness of Houston’s intersection safety camera program. Keep Houston Safe PAC is proud to have the support of Houston Mayor Annise Parker as well as Couniclmembers Clutterbuck, Lovell, Gonzalez, Rodriguez, Hoang, Costello, Pennington, Adams, Stardig and Johnson. That said, starting today, the voters of Houston have a clear choice between a self-serving traffic ticket attorney and his clients — who oppose holding red light runners accountable for their dangerous behavior — versus the Texas Children’s Hospital, Memorial Hermann Healthcare System, the Houston Police Officer’s Union, and the 65 percent of Houston voters who want to see this vital and effective traffic program continue. Additional supporters of intersection safety cameras include the Houston Police Officers Union, African American Police Officers League, Harris County Afro-American Sheriff’s Deputy League, Texas Children’s Hospital, Memorial Hermann Healthcare System, Harris County Hospital District, Texas Hospital Association, Texas EMS, Trauma & Acute Care Foundation and many, many more.
