Perry Campaign Releases New Ad – Calling Hutchison “The Queen”
February 22, 2010

Early voting is almost over and the March 2nd Primary is one week away.

That isn’t stopping the Governor Rick Perry campaign from sharpening its attacks against Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison.

A new television ad criticizes Senator Hutchison for voting for taxpayer-funded earmarks.  (you can watch the ad below)

I have one question – if Senator Hutchison is such a horrible Senator and a big wasteful spender, why did Republicans AND Governor Perry keep voting to send her to Washington for the last 16 years?

Can Conservatives Help Senator Hutchison’s Campaign?
February 14, 2010

As early voting gets underway this week, nearly every poll shows  Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison trailing Governor Rick Perry in the Republican primary.

The Senator remains personally popular across Texas but likely primary voters  are supporting the Governor, while Debra Medina is polling only slightly behind the Senator.

But, could a last-minute push by conservative leaders make a difference in the campaign?

On Monday,  several  leaders endorsed the Senator for Governor of  Texas.

The “Conservative Leaders for Kay” group includes Congressman Ted Poe (R-2nd), Astros Owner Drayton McLane, Judge Paul Pressler, Lakewood Church Pastor Dodie Osteen. Republican strategist Jessica Colon, and Sgt. Eddie Wright, USMC Ret.

This conservative push for Senator Hutchison follows several endorsements she received from major newspapers across Texas over the weekend.  The Houston Chronicle called her a “reliable and effective representative for her state and the Houston-Galveston area where she grew up.”

Is Mayor White Running for the U.S. Senate?
December 11, 2008

An Austin based on-line political magazine is reporting that Mayor Bill White is on the verge of announcing his plans to run for the United States Senate.

The Quorum Report (www.quorumreport.com) says its reliable sources believe the announcement will happen on Monday, December 15, 2008.

Last week KPRC Local 2 reported that Mayor White was close to announcing his future political plans.

The popular,  but term limited Mayor, was rumored to have his eye on the Texas Governor’s Mansion.

That changed when U.S. Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison formed an exploratory committee as a first step towards running for Governor.

If the Mayor does run for the open seat, he will face former State Comptroller John Sharp in the Democratic Party Primary.

State Senator Florence Shapiro of  Dallas is the only Republican name to surface as a possible candidate for  the U.S. Senate Senate.

Well, she says Senator John McCain never asked her to consider being his vice presidential running mate, but Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-Texas) is certainly keeping a busy, high profile schedule this week.

2 on the Beat has received several emails (like the one above) about the Senator’s many media appearances.

The senior senator from Texas is also scheduled to speak at the Republican National Convention. (that’s if – Gustav doesn’t go ruining things)

All that publicity can’t hurt, considering KBH is a likely candidate for governor of  Texas in 2010. (wonder if Governor Rick Perry wants Senator McCain to reconsider his decision?)

By the way – here’s a bit of trivia.

Before running for office do you know what Kay Bailey did for a living?

She was a TV NEWS REPORTER –  at KPRC Local 2.

That was way before 2 on the Beat’s time at the station, but if she ever shows up for a reunion I’ll take some pictures!
