Clinton – Noriega Endorsement
October 4, 2008

Senator Clinton and Noriega

Senator Clinton and Noriega

2 on the Beat told you earlier in the week that U.S. Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton would travel to the Rio Grande Valley to endorse State Rep. Rick Noriega for U.S. Senate.

The campaign sent this picture to me. It is the first image that I have seen so far that captures the obviously happy mood during the  endorsement.

You can see all of the local TV stations microphones on the podium, but it is difficult for Houston stations to get video out of the Valley. (or maybe I just missed it!)

Noriega, a democrat, is running against incumbent republican U.S. Senator John Cornyn.

On the same day that Senator Clinton was endorsing her fellow democrat, the Cornyn campaign sent out a news release  announcing that he was being endorsed by 40 elected officials from across South Texas.

High Profile Endorsements
October 2, 2008

Updates with photo and Senator John Cornyn announcement.

Some political experts say endorsements don’t always make a difference on election day, but if  you are the candidate, getting the right endorsement is something to boast about to the voters.

Two area democrats have plenty to brag about as a result of two high profile endorsements.

Endorsement #1

Democratic candidate for Harris County District Attorney C.O. “Brad” Bradford is being endorsed by former Houston Mayor Bob Lanier.

While he was in office, “Mayor Bob”  named Bradford as police chief.

At a fundraiser at  Attorney Rusty Hardin’s house Wednesday night, Lanier told the crowd that he believes Bradford is the best candidate for the job based on his years as a police officer, chief and attorney.

Bradford is running against Republican Pat Lykos.

Endorsement #2:

Democratic candidate for U.S. Senate Rick Noriega is also getting a high profile political pat on the back today in the Rio Grande Valley.

Former presidential candidate and U.S. Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton will formally endorse Noriega at an event this Thursday evening  in McAllen, Texas.

Noriega is running against incumbent Republican U.S. Senator John Cornyn.

Today Senator Cornyn’s campaign announced he has picked up the endorsement of  40 leaders along the Texas – Mexico border including the sheriffs of  Zapata and Hudspeth Counties.
