Rusty Hardin had a legal team working with him on the case.

Rusty Hardin had a legal team working with him on the case.

The foreman of the Jury in the Brown vs. Osteen trial told reporters that he would have voted to make Brown pay the Osteen’s legal fees.

That wasn’t an option for the jury, but 2 on the Beat would like to know what you think about that idea.

Jury foreman Gilles Labbe says that he and most of the jury thought the case was a big waste of time and money.

He says the jury never believed that an assault took place.

As Brown’s attorney said in closing arguments, “its like David fighting Goliath, and Victoria is not David.”  Mckamie said Osteen had an entire army fighting for her, and he named each member of the legal team by name.

2 on the Beat assumes that Rusty Hardin’s legal fees are not cheap.

Jurors Must Eat – Before Reaching a Verdict
August 14, 2008

The jury in the Brown vs. Osteen civil case began deliberating around 11:30.

They were scheduled to have their Pizzas delivered for lunch by 1:45.

Those who believe Osteen did nothing wrong are hoping for a quick decision, but the longer the jury stays out could that be a good sign for Sharon Brown.

As 2 on the Beat told you earlier, the FIRST QUESTION the jury must answer is Did Victoria Osteen commit an assault against Sharon Brown?

If the answer is no, the trial is over.  If the jury answers yes then it must continue to work its way through the jury charge.

2 on the Beat will let you know when the jury foreman rings the buzzer indicating that  a verdict has been reached.

More closing highlights
August 14, 2008

Brown’s attorney is back up:

Says Victoria Osteen “wants special rules. she feels she is a hammer and everyone else is little nails, and she can hit the nails.”

“This is about Sharon Brown protecting the plane and protecting the passengers. This is about Victoria Osteen protecting her image, protecting the  family business Lakewood Church, and protecting her sense of entitlement.”

“Sharon Brown is a hero, she is courageous, and its not sacrilege”

Hardin is done with his closing: “I don’t have the preacher voice of   Mckamie or even Joel Osteen, but I’ve always agreed with Jesse Jackson. You are somebody….we are all God’s children… and you shouldn’t have to have a lawsuit to prove that.”

“You the jury can tell Ms. Brown, whatever your problems are…God speed Ms. Brown, we wish you luck, but  no you have not been assaulted.”

Quotes from Rusty Hardin – Attorney for Victoria Osteen

Ms. Brown lives in a world all her own…imagined slights, perceived slights. When her status is not recognized she  totally flips out

if you want to hold her (Osteen) responsible you go to law enforcement. (but) within four days the people Sharon Brown thought the important people to contact were a a lawyer and a therapist. You don’t have to be a rocket scientist to figure out what’s going on.

When she tells you she wanted an apology that’s hogwash, she wanted to file a lawsuit.

Hardin continues the Religious themes.

Quotes from Rusty Hardin – Victoria Osteen’s attorney during closing:

We are here because of some type of need for self vindication for Ms. Brown

I don’t want to call it (lawsuit) frivolous. I want to call it sacrilege.

It’s blasphemy and sacrilege for those who have suffered trauma (post traumatic stress disorder as Brown claims) to come in here and say this incident put you in that category.

You put a no on this question (holding up the jury charge talking of question number one – see post below) and you bring an end to this blasphemy – this farce.

Bible Verses quoted in Closing
August 14, 2008

Sharon Brown’s attorney tells jury:

Remember Luke 13:  Much is to be required from those who are given much.  For mental anquish Reginald Mckamie is asking the jury to award Sharon Brown 200,000 dollars for her pain. another 200, 000 for future compensation.

He tells the jury that the defense (Osteen’s attorney) must answer this  question: What is a person’s dignity worth?  What is loss in a faith provider worth?

RUSTY HARDIN IS NOW STARTING.

OJ SIMPSON CASE MENTIONED IN CLOSING
August 14, 2008

Reginald McKamie tells Jury:

Where did the Goldman’s and the Browns get justice in the O.J. case, they didn’t get it at the criminal courthouse. They got justice in a civil courthouse from jurors just like you.
