A Big Assignment
February 13, 2009

State Representative Craig Eiland (D-Galveston/Chambers County) has been named Speaker Pro-Tem of the Texas House of Representatives.

It’s a plum assignment for the lawmaker who will have a seat at the leadership table when important bills are debated and passed.

He takes over the Pro-Tem role under new Speaker Joe Straus of  San Antonio. State Rep. Sylvester Turner (D-Houston) served as Speaker Pro Tem during former Speaker Tom Craddick

Eiland and Turner recently worked together on the Hurricane Ike report which details how Texas should prepare for storms and the recovery process.

Rep. Eiland was also appointed to the Appropriations and Insurance committees, which will be an asset as  he works to help Galveston Island recover from Hurricane Ike.
