Harris County Tejano Democrats Candidate Endorsements

2 on The Beat couldn’t make it to the Harris County Tejano Democratsendorsement meeting Thursday night,  but judging by all of the Facebook and Twitter updates I read, the evening was filled with a lot of political drama.

In a very close vote Gene Locke was endorsed in the race for Mayor of Houston.  He was nominated by State Senator Mario Gallegos and State Representative Carol Alvarado.

(below is a photo sent by the Locke campaign in a news release)

In the first round of voting, Locke received 100 votes, Annise Parker received 98 votes and Peter Brown received seven votes.  Houston attorney Roland Garcia nominated Parker, but I haven’t been able to confirm who nominated Brown.

A second vote was taken and Locke edged out Parker 104- 100 to win the final endorsement in the mayoral race.

In other races, the group endorsed incumbents  Sue Lovell and Jolanda Jones over their opponents.    Hermann Litt was endorsed for City Council At-Large Position 1, while former Houston Police Chief C.O. “Brad” Bradford was endorsed for City Council At-Large Position 4. Lane Lewis was endorsed in district A, and Mike Laster was endorsed in district F.
