City Controller Annise Parker  has finished her performance audit of  Taser use by the the Houston Police Department.

The results of the months long study will be released Monday morning.

The audit was done to examine “taser acquisition and distribution.”

Auditors were also expected to review the number of incidents involving tasers and compare usage to other police departments.

Houston police started using tasers about four years ago, and some controversial cases have resulted in public scrutiny.

Critics accuse some officers of being too quick to pull the trigger,  but police chief Harold Hurtt believes tasers are a valuable tool, and in most cases provide officers with a non-lethal alternative to shooting a criminal suspect.
